Officers from the Scarsdale Police Department were dispatched to a stretch of Stratton Road at approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday night, where there were multiple reports of two dogs fighting, with a man attacking one of them with a baseball bat.
According to police, a local police sergeant responded to the scene, when one of the dogs “aggressively ran toward him, and he had to use his department-issued service weapon to defend himself.” The dog then turned away and ran off from the scene. Officers attempted to follow the dog, but lost track of him behind a Stratton Road home heading in the direction of Penn Boulevard.
Officers proceeded to canvas the area and eventually came into contact with the dog’s owner, who reported it missing. The dog was later located in the driveway of its home, having returned without further incident, and the owner confirmed that it had gotten loose from the home.
Police said that the dog’s owner was able to provide its license and an updated Rabies immunization list. The owner was issued a summons and is due in Scarsdale Village Court on May 2.
